From the ashes of the Alley Cat Bar – an expat establishment going back 11 years – rises Tacos Kokopelli, ushering in a slight shift from their Tex-Mex menu to a more authentic Mexican experience focused on locally-sourced ingredients. All the favourites remain, such as soft tacos, burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas, and burgers. But the chef recommends trying his new fusion items which pair Asia’s strong flavours with Mexican presentations, like their Chinese five-spice pork, Thai Red curry chicken, Indonesian chicken sate or Khmer char kreung fish. Kokopelli is the humpbacked, flute-playing fertility deity of Native American legend who presides over agriculture, especially the corn ground down to form the basis of tortillas. The trickster would no doubt enjoy the happy hour from 5pm to 7pm, with a free run of the Cambodia draft tap for $5. On a Sunday, this coincides nicely with the Sundowners Session music jam and open mic.
